Real Risk Podcast

What is risk? Well risk can be defined as a situation involving exposure to danger. So is risk good for us? These days often there is every attempt to minimise or eliminate risk, in order to increase safety. But what are the ramifications of this? I often wonder if we are creating a generation of people who aren’t exposed to enough dangerous situations and therefore poorly equipped to cope under pressure? What are the consequences for our kids? How does this impact parenting? Schools? What are the implications on the activities you participate in during your spare time? Cave diving and surfing have risks, but does that mean we shouldn’t do it?

Maybe we as a society have all become too comfortable. Maybe things have all become too safe. Sometimes the biggest growth happens when we are challenged and pushed out of our comfort zone.

When Dr Richard Harris reached out to me about being on his Real Risk podcast I was more than flattered. Harry, as he likes to be known, is an anaesthetist from South Australia, an avid cave diver and an all round great bloke. He and his long time mate Craig Challen are both well known for their involvement in the international dive team that rescued the boys and their soccer coach from the Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand back in 2018.

Late last year I visited Harry at his place where we recorded a podcast. Listen to our conversation, not to mention all of the other great episodes which are likely to have you on the edge of your seat.

And remember - its important to always carefully assess the risk. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop doing what you love.
